Creators in the Making

Creators in the making require time!

“All great achievements require time” these words of Maya Angelou resonate this season at school.

It has been an answer to this question ‘Can kids really do everything? Where is the time?’

Creation:  The last year has seen some great work which was a result of sedulous efforts. Starting with the ‘SSFI Anthem’.

The children of SSFI had written and sung this music album. Children as young as 7 years and 10 years creating their own song is something that needs recognition. It was a great experience for the kids and a moment of pride for all of us.

As we plan for the unpredictable year ahead, we hope to return to school in hybrid mode and slowly function from our physical environment.

Juggling to make space for academic events, cultural events, observances and many more, a few new exciting additions gain significance.

Design Thinking

Design Thinking nurtures the learner’s innate curiosity and inculcates problem solving. Students arrive at solutions through ideating, collaborating, thinking critically, and working on prototypes.

Entrepreneurship

This programme follows a multidisciplinary approach and motivates the student to explore one concept from various viewpoints. Learners collaborate,  solve problems, plan, market and monetize through entrepreneurial projects.

We are looking forward to do these innovative programs to get our learners develop their skills for the future.

Co-curricular: It has been truly an eventful month culminating in the annual day showcasing a wide variety of talents.

How did they do this?

All this did require time and consistent effort. Every child blooms in the light of opportunities. We, being the architect of this social structure they thrive in, must support consistency. Consistency in their effort and in ideologies we share.

Progress requires sustained effort and iteration. We must teach children the importance of consistency. Though new setups or situations are milestones of new knowledge, true learning and deep-rooted progress is usually a product of practice. The coffee

morning has been just that!

Now let’s talk about time! Everything requires time and only with time kids can master a skill. Every child is meant to do great things and for such ‘hitting it out of the park’ moments to happen, time is essential. A child must get to do everything.

Well how do we make time in this time-pressed lifestyle of every millennial kid. Don’t take away the fun! The Fins take pride in having the best education system in the world. They believe one of the pivotal factors that contribute to this is in giving them enough

time to play and socialize. Research shows by facilitating children to do what they love to do they become more creative and

focussed to work on other demanding tasks let it be academics or any challenge. Well I am reminded of Einstein.

Imagination is more important than knowledge.

I would like to detail this a bit. Imagination should help you go beyond knowledge. As we plan our academic year the team and I, try to make time to provide ample opportunities for creativity to thrive.  Surprisingly their performance is better because we would be managing efforts rather than energies and time.

Another perspective about time is to make kids aware of this fact.

‘Learning to use time rather than manage time’

By being conscious of time and using it wisely everything can be done. Time-auditing is a great strategy to teach kids. Something that even adults could learn. By getting them to put on paper what they want and how much time has been spent on it makes them conscious of how much time is spent on ‘Where they want to go’.  Time-audited planning to do even something as simple as

planting a seed. Kids must know to value time and gain emotional and social intelligence. Simply to teach them to spend and

make beautiful moments with you. Every social laboratory the child develops in, let be home or school must provide the child

with conscious opportunities. Opportunities to learn, to think, to have fun, to be bored, to be strong, to become emotionally intelligent. Make them nimble learners.

A time that is well spent like this could contribute to a child not just emotionally but academically. This will make them confident,  mindful and secure. Eventually that moment of accomplishment and mastery is not too far. After all every child deserves this because you never know, one day, this a child too could become a creator.
